Somehow, I get the feeling Greeks have become the new symbol of decay. It seems people around Europe dislike Greeks because they consider them to be arrogant, overbearing, loud, short-sighted, aggressive. The ancestor of Europeans, makes them so different that everyone wanna become Greek...
In fact, according to their religion, all Greeks are givers. on the other hand, they are racists and conservative, which means their love in one hand, and their defence in the other.
I certainly don't believe all Greeks are bad. Matter of fact, I think it takes time for Greeks to get ready to open up in times of global civilization. nowadays, they might still enjoy staying in intoxication. Greece has lots of history and the west take that for granted. How can Greeks improve their images? How can Greeks change the growing tide of negative attitudes towards them? actually most of them don't really care.
Greek civilization is one of the oldest in the world. A change of foreign policy is certainly in order. Greece seems averse to innovation. Improvement in their mind is not the same way with the rest, acting in the same way with the rest would be a big step for them. "Think of the way the rest of the world does it, and the opposite is true in Greece."this's the answer i'd get when asking 'why?'
A very kind and wise papous(grandpa) offered me another explanation after tapping me on the shoulder and gesturing in the air as if pointing to a prize behind a curtain, he said, "Ellada(Greece)." Hearing this answer and finding none of my own logic, i stopped asking 'why?' and simply accepted. It's a more peaceful and sane way to live life.
So, if we accept others without demanding a change in their culture and politics, that would make us better. we all need to learn to show respect and genuinely try to understand other countries' systems, values, cultures, and differences. Rather than demand improvement from other countries.
Greece is an ancient. beatiful and complex country, I will need to go exploring all slowly.
